Allergy sufferers with a weakness for canine companions might be tempted by claims that they can tearlessly coexist with certain breeds of "hypoallergenic" dogs. But they might want to keep some tissues handy.
Purported hypoallergenic breeds, such as the Portuguese water dog--the breed the Obamas chose two years ago for their daughter Malia who has allergies--aren't any less likely to produce lower household allergen levels, according to a new study by the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
